Results of tender for designing drafts of occasional coins to be issued in 2025
On 8 March 2024 Banka Slovenije published a tender for designing drafts of occasional coins to be issued in 2025. Tender was published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia, No. 19/24 and on the Banka Slovenije's web page. By the end of the tender on 22 April 2024 we received 33 drafts for commemorative coin to mark 100th anniversary of the birth of Miki Muster and 21 drafts for collector coins to mark European Capital of Culture 2025 Nova Gorica – Gorizia.
The Commission for issuing occasional coins, established by the Banka Slovenije and the Ministry of finance of the Republic of Slovenia, decided to award the following drafts for designing commemorative coin to mark 100th anniversary of the birth of Miki Muster:
- prize (€4.000) for draft with code 9761 – author: Robert Žvokelj;
- prize (€2.000) for draft with code IZVEN OKVIRJA – authors: Daniela Vidmar Podboj and Tomaž Podboj;
- prize (€1.300) for draft with code 7428 – author: Edi Berk.
Draft with code 9761 builds new relationship between characters and implements it successfully onto the coin. Characters jointly address the person holding it in by using soft relief they almost come to life. Typography is appropriate and especially readable.
For collector coins to mark European Capital of Culture 2025 Nova Gorica – Gorizia the following drafts are awarded:
- prize (€4.000) for draft with code 25GO – author: Gorazd Učakar;
- prize (€2.000) for draft with code VA11 – author: Svetlana Milijaševič;
- prize (€1.300) for draft with code 1955 – authors: Neža Novak and Luka Novak.
Main motif of the draft 25GO is the mosaic at the Europe Square or its elements (57/15), which are depicted in its original form on one side of the coin and successfully upgraded on the other side of the coin by uniting them while preserving their original positions. Contour typography used for coins’ nominal values is appropriate and connects existing visual image of the event with the looks of the coin.
Occasional coins are suggested to be minted based on the drafts awarded with first prize. The Government of Slovenia will make the final approval of the drafts based on which occasional coins will be minted.
