Awards for three master’s and one doctoral dissertations
This year once again Banka Slovenije has awarded prizes for the best dissertations by students in the field of finance. Out of nine dissertations applying, the selection committee chose three best master’s and one best doctoral dissertations. Prizes of EUR 1,500 for master’s dissertations were presented to Jernej Kadivnik, Gorazd Govekar and Evgen Brenčič, and prize of EUR 3,000 for doctoral dissertation was presented to Aida Ćehajić.
Banka Slovenije has been awarding prizes since 1992 with objective to promote research work. Including this year’s winners, more than 300 students have won prizes so far.
The latest winners were congratulated by the Governor of Banka Slovenije, Boštjan Vasle, who also took the opportunity to thank them for their contribution to economic knowledge: "In Banka Slovenije we wish for good and scientifically based ideas, which can help us develop decisions in the field of monetary policy and elsewhere. For that reason, cooperation with the young generation is of utmost value."
Recipients of this year’s prizes:
Jernej Kadivnik, for the dissertation The Impact of Monetary Policy on US Equity Market during Covid-19 Pandemic, under the supervision of Prof. Dr Sašo Polanc, of the School of Economics and Business of the University of Ljubljana.
Gorazd Govekar, for the dissertation Lending activity of publicly traded European banks during the COVID-19 pandemic, under the supervision of Prof. Dr Matej Marinč, of the School of Economics and Business of the University of Ljubljana.
Evgen Brenčič, for the dissertation High-tech export determinants in the EU Member States, under the supervision of Prof. Dr Katja Zajc Kejžar, of the School of Economics and Business of the University of Ljubljana.
Aida Ćehajić, for the dissertation Bank funding, credit growth and macroprudential regulation, under the supervision of Prof. Dr Marko Košak, of the School of Economics and Business of the University of Ljubljana.
