Celebrate Prešeren Day at the Banka Slovenije Museum and Mala Galerija Banke Slovenije
On Slovenia’s cultural holiday, celebrated on the 8 February, the Banka Slovenije Museum is once again organising a special programme for all age groups. We are inviting families with children at 11 am for a family tour of the museum, while adults are invited on a guided tour of the museum starting at 2 pm. At 4 pm, you can try your luck at a virtual game called Atlas's Secret. On this festive day, you are also welcome to visit Mala Galerija Banke Slovenije, which will open a new exhibition entitled From Word to Form at 7 pm.
Each year Prešeren Day offers an opportunity for all of us to take part in a host of cultural events, and thus to deepen our awareness of the importance of creativity and art. Art can also come into our lives via everyday objects, such as the money we use. The Banka Slovenije Museum displays money and the activities of the central bank in a creative and aesthetic way. We invite you to take this opportunity to see our exhibits at three different events.
This year we are starting Prešeren Day with a family tour of the museum at 11 am. After a short introduction, children and their parents will be able to explore the museum on their own with the help of the materials and a guide. You will also be able to see the most interesting exhibits, such as chair made of damaged shredded banknotes and tap the gold bar.
These attractions and a more in-depth look into the functions and activities of Banka Slovenije will also be presented to the adult visitors, who will be able to take a guided tour of the museum at 2 pm. In about one hour, you will learn about the key tasks of the central bank, delve into the history of payments and cash in independent Slovenia, get a chance to tap a gold bar and learn some interesting facts about gold, see Slovenian commemorative coins and coins of other countries, check the authenticity of your banknotes and experience many other interesting things.
Slovenia’s cultural holiday in Banka Slovenije Museum will be concluded at 4 pm with a virtual game Atlas's Secret. It is a team game during which you learn basic financial concepts, discover the key tasks of the central bank and explore the museum's exhibits. The aim of the game is to discover the code that unlocks the vault where the prize is hidden. The game is played in teams and is particularly suitable for high-school pupils, students and adults. It can only be played if there are enough participants.
All events are free of charge, however the registration is required by emailing muzej@bsi.si by Tuesday 6 February 2024. The number of places is limited.

On Slovenia’s cultural holiday, Mala Galerija Banke Slovenije will open a new exhibition entitled From Word to Form, which will be prepared by the architecture students of the University of Ljubljana. New tools, especially machine learning, are significantly changing the nature of creative processes as artificial intelligence algorithms can generate images from verbal descriptions. In the exhibition, architecture students together with students from the Academy of Fine Arts and Desing explored the comparison between human and computer understanding of architectural projects. They were curious to see how human intuition and interpretation differ from the workings of artificial intelligence, which only analyses projects based on verbal descriptions. During the process, students used AI algorithms to create 99 new images, which would not have been created without the initial human creative power. You are kindly invited to attend the opening of the exhibition From Word to Form, which will take place on 8 February 2024 at 7 pm at Mala Galerija Banke Slovenije.
