We invite you to join us for Prešeren Day at Banka Slovenije’s Museum and Mala Galerija
On Slovenia’s cultural holiday, which we celebrate on 8 February, the Banka Slovenije Museum will once again host events for all age groups. Throughout the day the virtual game Hunt for Lost Money will be open to contestants, and at 11 am we invite families with children to join us, then at 1 pm there is a guided tour for adults, and at 3 pm young people and adults can test their mettle in the team game Atlas’s Secret. Banka Slovenije’s Mala Galerija will welcome visitors on this special holiday to view the exhibition The Wall by Tim Topić.
If you find yourself strolling through the city centre on Prešeren Day, we invite you to try your luck in the virtual game Hunt for Lost Money. The game takes place outside, close to our museum. You start by using a QR code, which will be printed on posters near the museum on Cankarjeva Street, or via the online link which we will post that day on our website and on social networks. During the game you get to move between specific points in the city with a link to the tolar, Slovenia’s first and only independent currency. You can play the game as a team or on your own, and you will need a mobile phone and about half an hour to play.
The Banka Slovenije Museum will kick off the Slovenian cultural holiday with a walk through the museum for families with children at 11 am. After the group introductory part, parents and their children can explore the museum for themselves using the materials and guides provided. Of course during this visit you will get to experience the most fascinating exhibits, including the chair made from shredded banknotes, and you can feel the weight of a gold bar.
We invite adults to join us for the guided tour, which we will start at 1 pm. Over the course of approximately one hour you will learn about the key tasks of the central bank, and the history of payments and cash in independent Slovenia. You can feel the weight of a gold bar, find out some interesting facts about gold, see Slovenia’s commemorative coins and the coins of other countries, test the authenticity of your own banknotes, and enjoy many more fascinating experiences.
We will conclude events for the day at the museum with the game Atlas’s Secret at 3 pm. This is a team game in which you will get to know some basic financial terms, learn about the key role of the central bank and explore the museum exhibits. The aim of the game is to crack the code that unlocks the vault in which the prize is hidden. The game is played in teams, and is suitable principally for secondary school and university students and adults. We conduct the game only when enough people register.
Participation at all events is free of charge, but you must register in advance and state the event you wish to join, by Thursday 6 February 2025, by email at muzej@bsi.si. The number of places available, with the exception of the Hunt for Lost Money, is limited.
If you would like to hear about all the events and latest topics to do with central banking, we invite you to register through our website for the museum e-newsletter, in which each month we highlight specific topics and devote space to interesting news and quizzes. We also regularly post content relating to financial literacy on our Instagram profile. We kindly invite you to follow us!
Banka Slovenije’s Mala Galerija will welcome visitors on this special holiday to view the exhibition The Wall by Tim Topić.
The project is founded on the link between photography and the supporting expertise of the restoration and conservation of works of art, which rarely encounter each other during the creative process. In this project the artist explores the relationship between the photographic medium and the surface used for printing, and between the photograph as a window to the world and the wall as an architectural barrier. Banka Slovenije’s Mala Galerija will be open on Prešeren Day from 11 am to 7 pm. No registration is required and admission is free.
You are warmly invited!
