Masters of the Digital Future – Banka Slovenije's Debate Project

Banka Slovenije invites teachers to take part in the Masters of the Digital Future debate project, which will take place during the 2023/2024 school year under the patronage of Slovenia’s President, Nataša Pirc Musar, and Banka Slovenije's Governor, Boštjan Vasle. The project will be carried out in cooperation with the Slovenian debate organisation Za in proti, zavod za kulturo dialoga (Pro et Contra, Institut for Cultural Dialogue).

It is intended for students in the last three grades of primary school and for secondary-school students.

As part of this project, young people will reflect on and discuss the meaning of digitalisation for the banking system, contemporary payment methods and current economic trends, as well as the impact of digital advances on artificial intelligence, and the rights and responsibilities of individuals associated with AI.

The project is intended for both teachers and young people who would like to learn more about the various methods of debate and how they are used in debating competitions, as well as those who are already familiar with them. Competitions will take place in different groups based on the level of familiarity with the debate methodology.

  • Tuesday, 29 August 2023, Banka Slovenije:
    Debate seminar for new and experienced coaches – presentation of the debate methodology and the topics included in the debate project
     
  • Wednesday, 4 October 2023:
    Meet Banka Slovenije – open house day and launch of the debate project: an interesting training programme for primary- and secondary-school students that also features a tour of the Banka Slovenije Museum
     
  • The 2023/2024 school year:
    visits to primary and secondary schools – holding debate seminars in collaboration with specialists at Banka Slovenije and the organisation Za in proti, zavod za kulturo dialoga
     
  • January/February 2024:
    debate tournament qualifiers – holding debate tournament qualifiers and selecting the finalists
     
  • Saturday, 11 May 2024,
    Banka Slovenije: the debate finals and project conclusion – selecting the project winners, with active participation by the Slovenian President, Nataša Pirc Musar, and the Banka Slovenije Governor, Boštjan Vasle

Prize for the winners: a trip to Frankfurt, along with a tour of the European Central Bank (ECB). After the end of the debate project, all the finalists will meet with President Nataša Pirc Musar at the Presidential Palace.

A debate seminar for new and experienced coaches (a seminar for teachers)

All primary- and secondary-school teachers interested in the project are invited to attend a debate seminar as part of the Masters of the Digital Future project, which will present the possibility of using the debate methodology for teaching financial literacy in schools.  The seminar will be held in cooperation with the organization Za in proti, zavod za kulturo dialoga. It is primarily intended for teachers who will sign up for the Masters of the Digital Future debate projects together with their students.

There is no registration fee. At the end all participants will receive a certificate of attendance. It is not required to attend the seminar in order to take part in the debate project.

Meet Banka Slovenije (open house day and launch of the debate project)

All teachers are invited to attend the Meet Banka Slovenije open house day with their students. The event will also see the official launch of the Masters of the Digital Future debate project and the participants will have the chance to take a tour of Banka Slovenije.

You may attend the event even if you are not participating in the Masters of the Digital Future project.

  • The event will begin with opening speeches delivered by the Slovenian President, Nataša Pirc Musar, and the Banka Slovenije Governor, Boštjan Vasle.
  • After this, you can attend the numismatic workshops and visit interactive info points where you can learn the basic concepts of financial literacy, such as inflation, loans and interest, savings, and payment methods, how to recognise counterfeit banknotes, and so on in an interesting way.
  • You will also learn more about Banka Slovenije's tasks and responsibilities at the museum, where you can feel the weight of a gold bar and test your financial knowledge in “Atlas’s Secret” virtual game, among other things.

Attendance is free.

The deadline for applications for the Meet Banka Slovenije event is 1 October 2023, and you can register by sending an email to izobrazevalnidan@bsi.si.
